There are vaious types of veneers:
1. Composite Veneers are made from a resin-based polymer material that is applied to the front of teeth to improve the look (colour and alignment) in much the same way as a porcelain veneer. Composites are lower cost than porcelain but don't last as long (typically 2-5 years).
2. Feldspathic Porcelain Veneers are made by a skilled ceramist who gets a precise outline from us in order to build up porcelain in layers to exactly match the model we provide. The porcelain is then cured and baked at a high temperature to form a perfectly shaped veneer that is then bonded by us to your tooth. It is because of the lengthy process that porcelain veneers cost more but the upside is that they last longer (typically 10-15 years).
3. Emax Porcelain Veneers are made by high pressure injection into a mould (which we make from your teeth) to produce a very thin veneer that is surprisingly strong and durable. Emax veneers are thinner than feldspathic venners and for this reason usually do not require teeth etching, as may be the case with standard porcelain. Emax have a superior look with a higher level of translucence offering a more natural looking tooth shade. Being the strongest type of veneer, we would expect Emax veneers to last around 15-20 years.
All veneers are fitted on top of your existing teeth which is why the foundation of aligned, straight teeth are so important to the outcome. Houses are only built on solid foundations and it is the same for teeth. Veneers are not a low cost treatment, so it would not be logical to include measures to straighten teeth (if necessary) as part of the overall veneers treatment. Chatha Smiles want all patients to get the very best from their treatments, so our approch to fitting veneers is to have an open an honest discussion with patients interested in this procedure so that they get the very best outcome.
The most common reason that a veneer comes off is because of an improper bite but if you are prepared to address any corrective work before veneers are fitted, then they should last at least 10-15 years without problem but our dentist will advise specifically relating to each individual case.
If you're interested in getting veneers fitted then please do arrange an appointment and we'll examine your teeth and tell you exactly what your total treatment will involve, how long it will take and of course, how much the whole treatment will cost. The initial Consultation is free and we'll discuss all options for your individual case. Everyone's different, so no one treatment fits all. Come and see us and let's discuss what we can do for you!
