Invisalign is the leading brand of clear, removable braces that are custom moulded to fit exactly over your teeth. For a course of treatment around 12 - 30 sets of braces are required, each one being used along a journey to realigned teeth. As a removable brace, they are taken out for eating and teeth may be brushed as normal. However, these braces do need to be worn for around 20 hours a day and failure to do so simply prolongs the treatment time.
6 Month Smiles are a brand of clear fixed braces that are designed to make major improvements over a short time. Six Month Smiles has taken the best aspects of braces and modified the treatment and the materials to give adults a common-sense, cosmetic solution that fits your lifestyle. The 6 Month Smiles braces are a set of components designed to minimally visible but have all the major advantages of fixed braces and yes, treatment time is an average of just 6 months!
Self Ligating Braces consist of brackets (placed on teeth) and archwire which is used to link the brackets together. The difference between self-ligating brackets and normal brackets is the way the wire connects to the bracket. The self-ligating braces use a slide mechanism to hold the archwire, thus reducing the amount of pressure exerted on the teeth.
Fixed Metal Braces are the most common type of dental brace fitted by dentists because they are very effective and can correct all types of mis-alignments. They are also the lowest cost option and metal braces can be fitted to any person regardless of age or sex, so it is never too late to seek treatment.
Fixed Ceramic Braces are very similar to metal braces but they are much less visible because the brackets that cover part of a tooth are coloured to blend in with the tooth. It is also possible to use a very light coloured bracket retaining wire so the overall effect is one that is far less noticeable than metal braces. The advantage of this type of brace over invisible (clear plastic) aligners is that they are much more effect in moving teeth and as such can be used for a shorter duration to achieve the same repositioning.
Lingual Braces are fitted to the REAR of the teeth and so for the most part are totally invisible. Inevitably, because they are more difficult to fit and also to adjust, they are usually the most expensive option when it comes to braces. However, the big benefit with lingual braces which do the same job as fixed braces, is that they are hidden which is a major cosmetic plus.
